Opening Prayers

The Apostle’s Creed

(Recite while holding the Crucifix)

The Church is a mystery in as much as in her visible reality there is present and active a divine spiritual reality which can only be seen with the eyes of faith.

Holy Rosary Devotion - The Crucifix

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ,
His only Son, our Lord,
(Kneel)
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
(Rise)
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell;
on the third day He rose again
from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God
the Father almighty,
from there He shall come to judge
the living and the dead.
I believe
in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the Communion of Saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body
and life everlasting.

Our Father

(Still holding the Crucifix)

The Word of God communicates the mystery of salvation. Through the Lord’s Prayer, we are therefore aware of our being children of the Father through the Son.

Pray The Rosary Detailed Guide

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Hail Mary

Each of the three cluster beads represent one of The Divine Virtues: faith, hope and love (fides, spes et caritas). When the Blessed Virgin Mary became the mother of Jesus, she gave herself entirely to serve the mystery of redemption, by God’s grace.

Praying The Rosary Explained

(Luke 1:26-38)

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And he came to her and said,
“Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!”
But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her,
“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,
and you shall call his name Jesus.
He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High;
and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,
and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever;
and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

And Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no husband?”
And the angel said to her,
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,
and the power of the Most High will overshadow you;
therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.
And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.
For with God nothing will be impossible.”
And Mary said,
“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord;
let it be to me according to your word.”
And the angel departed from her.

Praying The Rosary Guide

(Luk 1:39-49)

In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost and she exclaimed with a loud cry,
“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears,
the babe in my womb leaped for joy.
And blessed is she who believed
that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”

Holy Rosary Meditation Practices - Third Mystery

(Luke 2:1-12)

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled. This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be enrolled, each to his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

The Fourth Joyful Mystery: Presentation in the Temple

Spiritual Fruit: Obedience

Devotional Rosary Practice - Fourth Decade

(Luk 2:22-35)
And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”

Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. And inspired by the Spirit he came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law, he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said,

“Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word;
for mine eyes have seen thy salvation which thou hast prepared in the presence of all peoples,
a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to thy people Israel.”

And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother,
“Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed.”

The Fifth Joyful Mystery: The Finding of Jesus in the Temple

Spiritual Fruit: Piety

Interactive Rosary Tutorial

(Luke 2:41-52)

Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”

“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”
But they did not understand what he was saying to them.

Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

At The Connecting Medallion

Concluding prayer before the cross which concludes the wreath for a fruitful perfection.
The Rosary is a perfect wreath!
We have now reached the connecting medallion which unites our intentions and prayers.
On the medallion, we pray Salve Regina. The Marian hymn is at the end of the Rosary.

Let us pray:
O, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, Poor banished children of Eve;
To thee do we send up our sighs,
Mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
Thine eyes of mercy toward us;
And after this our exile,
Show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.

V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
R. that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Orémus:
Salve Regina,
Mater misericordiae,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Hevae.
Ad te suspiramus,
gementes et flentes in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia ergo, advocata nostra,
illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte.
Et Iesum,
benedictum fructum ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, o pia,
O dulcis Virgo Maria.

V. Ora pro nobis, sancta Dei Genitrix.

R. Ut digni efficamur promissionibus Christi.

Let us pray:

O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection,
has purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation.
Grant, we beseech Thee: that while meditating on these mysteries
of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
that we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise,
through Christ our Lord.
